Once upon a time there was a young working woman being handed work to the point of working overtime. Every day she would go through the same thing, being the last one to leave the company she works at.  One day she was given extra work from her boss and need to finish it before leaving the office. Because of that, the next morning she was extremely late to class and her professor did not want to let her in. The professor wanted her to know that the University was not going to tolerate lateness, but little did he know her struggle to get there. Because of that, she ended up leaving that school in hopes to find a school fit for her schedule. On her way out, she finds an ad on the bulletin board stating a college that was built for working adults and decides to check it out. Until finally, all her late nights at work and her tardiness led her to the place she needed to be – the University of Phoenix.

COCO

Once upon a time there was this little boy who loved music. This little boy is named Miguel. Every day Miguel and his dog would go to the market to have little shows for people. He would sing and dance to the songs written by his idol, Ernesto De La Cruz, and he was very good at it – he would sing word for word without looking at any paper. The only problem is that his family hates music; it has been banned for many generations. One day his family found out what he was doing and broke his guitar, which he had made himself. Because of that, little Miguel runs away. He finds himself going to the cemetery in which his idol had been buried. He manages to get into the little house that was with his casket and guitar and takes the guitar down from where it was and plays one note. Because of that, little Miguel, without knowing, finds himself surrounded by skeletons and no one, but the skeletons (oh and his dog) can see him. Little Miguel basically finds himself in the Land of the Dead, just because he played one note on the guitar. Little Miguel ends up running into his dead family members and they all start questioning why and what he was doing there. He goes on a journey around the land and sees many different things, but most importantly he uncovers the truth about his family. Until finally, he was able to have his dead family members enjoy music again and be able to return back home and get his family in the real world to enjoy music as much as he does.

My Top 5 Rules for Visual Storytelling

  1. Teach Something – This is my top rule. The reason behind this is that when one tells a story, it’s to eventually teach someone or inform them about something that should be done and should never even cross their minds to be done. Most and maybe all of Pixar’s movies revolve around teaching something. As kids we watch movies for entertainment, but if we end up watching the same movies as an adult we realize that the movie had a message in it the entire time.
  2. Be personal, Be true – By having some tie to what you are making (drawings, photographs) or directing, it can give the audience a look into who you actually are. You can draw and take pictures of the lives of others and direct outrageous sci-fi movies, but the second you put in a little of your life out to the world, people will be shocked to find out the truth behind the curtains.
  3. Focus – Keeping it straight and to the point is the way to go. If there is too much going on, then the audience is lost, and nobody wants that to happen.
  4. Show conflict – Conflict is the force that drives a story. No conflict, no story. Basically, without the conflict, many viewers will not continue watching the movie or series. By having the conflict it makes and gives the audience a sense of wanting more, especially if it’s a series.
  5. Context – Now the final but most important rule. You can’t have a bestselling story or movie without context. Find ways to have plot twists and find ways to keep the audience hooked to your story.

What If…?

If the company, VANS, my go to everyday brand were to ask me to promote their product, the first thing I would do is figure out who the audience is. Do a bunch of research towards that to make sure the brand is going to the specific generation and making sure it ties into what is ‘hot’ at the moment and keeping up with the trends constantly because things can change between the moment the idea is brought up to the moment the product/ idea is released. The next thing in line would be the promotion. Dropping hints on social media, for example, ads in picture or video form to hype up the product in hand. Promotion can be done mainly with famous people that the audience is most likely listening to at the moment or are interested in. Since the audience is most likely young, the product should be advertised on social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, short ad videos on Snapchat, maybe even on Twitter, but the thing here is the research as to where and what times do these youngsters go on their profiles. Making sure the fonts used ( if more then one) connect with each other, the background, colors and the call to action would be the last pieces of the puzzle. All of these last pieces are very important and have to be eye catching, as well as short and straight to the point, making sure that all details coincide with each other and that not only is it on social media from the companies profiles, but its being liked and shared around by everyone viewing it – almost like making sure the networking doesn’t fail, but helps out in spreading the word about the hot, cool and new [product].

Suspense? Thriller?

Are you interested in abnormalities and having your mind be turned upside down and all around? Are you interested in being shocked at every moment possible?

Well, let me tell you about this one book that has everyone hanging on thin thread. The book is based on the Netflix series Stranger Things. The book Stranger Things: Suspicious Minds takes place in the summer of 1969 with conflicts that have been going on that have been affecting much of the youth in America. The main character in this book, Terry Ives, is a college student that ends up signing up for and important government experiment to be a test subject. While being at the laboratory she uncovers something that is still questionable to her.

So if you’d like to figure out more about what Terry Ives has uncovered, make sure you go out and find this book. You will not be disappointed.

Netflix

This company has two different ways in which it can be portrayed. The first way is with a black background and red writing. The second portrayal of this company is with a white background and the same red writing. The color black means absence, rebellion, modernity, power, sophistication, formality, elegance, mystery, style, evil, emptiness, darkness, seriousness, conventionality, unity, sorrow and professionalism. The color red means celebration, purity, passion, strength, energy, fire, sex, love, excitement, speed, heat, arrogance ambition , leadership, masculinity, power, danger, blood, war, anger and revolution. The color white means purity, peace, neutrality and peace of mind and body. No matter with what background this company uses, it portrays what the content will be about. This is due to the fact that the movies or series or documentary can be full of content that is a part of the meaning of the colors of the company as a whole, making the colors send the right message for the company. If I had the option to change the colors of the company, I would just say that I have no need to change the colors. The simplicity of these colors is enough to portray what is needed to be portrayed.

All About Priscilla Flores

Priscilla Flores is a 21 year old female who is a first generation college student. She has received her Associate Degree in Computer Network Administration, making her, not only a first generation college student, but a first generation college graduate. She has received the honor of being in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Priscilla is currently certified in Network Security and Network Pro and pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree at the College of Westchester.

Priscilla was an excellent Student Ambassador at the College of Westchester. She was able to work under pressure and be able to break out of her shy shell. She gave outstanding speeches during each and every orientation and at any event that the school had provided for the upcoming students and for students already enrolled at the college. She would always mention how hard it was for her to talk in front of a crowd, but it came so natural to her. She loves to encourage people to do their very best, always keeping in mind her own goals. Each and every semester, she would add something to her achievements. She started off with being on the Dean’s List, then worked her way up. As mentioned before, she is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and this she was able to achieve while only being in college for two semesters.

By being able to break out of her soft and shy shell, she showed everyone around her how dedicated she is. She never lets anything bring her down, and this allows her to accomplish anything that is put in front of her. Priscilla is a very inspirational young lady, and this was noticed by every professor and staff member of the college she attends. She inspired every person around her and was able to be an advocate for the college at the Association for Proprietary Colleges (an event held every year in Albany). At this event she spoke with Senators and their secretaries, demonstrating her knowledge about the help of TAP towards, not only herself, but for all current and future college students. (At this event she was able to get other people jealous for being the only one to get a hug from Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins).

Now, all of her academic achievements have led her to where she is now. The youngest Coordinator / Supervisor at her current job at Marshalls. Everyone looks up to her and is always letting her know the amazing job she does there. Now the thing with her is that she doesn’t just spend her time at school studying or at work. She loves to be outdoors, even when her allergies don’t want her to be. She enjoys playing soccer and any and every park she can think of, but the main parks she will be found are in Yonkers, New York and in White Plains, New York, yet from time to time she will go to New York City to meet up with family to play some friendly soccer games.

All in all, Priscilla is a very educated, encouraging, and determined young lady.

Me, Myself, and I

Life has never been easy… But well when is it ever? I have always struggled to get to where I am now and I can honestly say it has actually been a blast.

I am currently on my last semester as a Bachelor student and I am the oddball in all of my classes… Actually ever since I started my college career. I am the one and only girl and have been for the past three years in most of my classes. The only good thing is that I have some advantage as to being able to bother my classmates and have a good connection with them and my professors.

I have learned throughout my entire life to never give up and to never give in to any temptations. So just use this advice: Be yourself. Don’t let anyone control you. You control you.
